2022 Stock Ranch Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

Notes

Green-tinged to pale yellow. Lifted lemongrass, juicy-expressive almost tangerine like citrus, herbs and pink salts fill the bouquet. A broad ribbon of palate coating stone fruits threaded by a strong line of natural acidity lends a counterpoint to the umami leaning nature of the wine. A classic rendition of being weighted without being heavy from the newest addition to our lineup of site driven Chardonnays. We’re excited to see where this vineyard goes from here given the presence of this inaugural bottling.

The 2022 Chardonnay Stock Ranch bursts from the glass with bold notes of fresh melon, pear tart, and white peaches plus suggestions of powdered ginger, orange blossoms, and salty almonds. The medium to full-bodied palate is wonderfully soft-spoken and savory, with beautifully balanced acidity and a spicy kick to the finish. 500 cases were made. This is a brand new Chardonnay for Kistler, from two ridges in from the coast near Occidental and planted by Kistler with their proprietary Chardonnay clone.

Lots of Meyer lemons, dried seaweed, heather and mussel shells on the nose. Medium-bodied with density and firmness. Plenty of tightness and length. Love this new wine. Fresher and more linear than other sites. Drink or hold.

Coming from a site that sees influences from both the coast and the valley (it sits around 8 miles in from the coast), the 2022 Chardonnay Stock Ranch pours a bright yellow hue and is all about its saline feel both on the nose and the palate. The first vintage for this wine, it has notes on the nose of lime and green apples followed by a weightless feel on the palate, but then there’s a ripe side to the wine as well, with a custardy finish along with a savory, light umami touch. Medium to full-bodied, it’s going to do well with another 2-3 years in the cellar and can be enjoyed over the following 8-10 years. 500 cases produced.
